Ok, so maybe I didn’t love the album so much. But that doesn’t mean I’m not bursting out of my skin for the next two days of Springsteen Heaven. First, the eyes of the world are focused on Tampa tomorrow for special performance by Bruce and the Boys. It’s such a big performance, that they’ve even organized a football game to get people pumped up in advance!
The band is scheduled to play for 12 minutes at halftime of the Super Bowl. I don’t think 12 minutes has been so dissected since the first half of the Nixon tapes. Everyone wants to know, how will Bruce hit four songs into such a short period of time and, most importantly, what will he play?
Well, I boast no inside knowledge, but a bit of insight, perhaps, just in that I’ve been watching him closely for quite some time. Anyway, its just one man’s guess, but here’s my prediction:
Working on a Dream > The Promised Land > Dancing in the Dark > Born to Run
This mini-set will not blow away the die hard fan, but it includes four highly recognizable songs and it pairs his new single with its 30 year-old forefather in folky hope.
But I promised you Springsteen Heaven, so Sunday is just a start. The following morning, at 9am, tickets go on sale for most of the band’s American tour. Granted, that’s also when I get to drop too much money that I can’t quite afford to see a guy I’ve seen play about a dozen times before. What can ya do? He’s yet to disappoint.
BTW- if you have 20 minutes, check out Bruce and the band’s pre-Super Bowl press conference. You can see it here. I tell ya, that man’s a character.
