Update:
I’ve learned a few things here and there about today’s shows. First off, it turns out that the Dead did originally apply for a permit to play Battery Park, but the city turned them down. That’s how that initial rumor got out there.
Also, there was some confusion about them being on Letterman. I’d thought it was going to be today. It turns out they will be on the Late Show in April, around the time they play the New York area venues, The Garden, Nassau and the Brendon Byrne Continental Izod Center Arena.
Finally, if you’re going to the shows, remember that the shows are meant to be scalper-proof. That means that you and your guest both have to show up with IDs to get in. If you show up with anyone else, it sounds to me like neither of you are getting in. (Not sure what happens if you just show up alone.) Anyway, enjoy. I’ll try to post a review, or at least some pics.
Original Post:
The Dead will be all over NYC on Monday, playing three different shows, plus appearing on The View and Letterman. But most importantly, at 11pm at the Roseland Ballroom, I will be there!
That’s right, I won tickets and will be seeing the Dead in two nights!
I’m ecstatic. I’m over the moon. I’m almost more excited about this than some other huge news that just happened in my life… but that’s not for this blog.
Anyway, if you’re also going to be there, leave a note in the comments section and tell us just how excited you are. Also, let us know what song you most want to hear them play.
Personally, I’d be quite satisfied with a Scarlett>Fire.
Here’s the Day of the Dead, as best as I can figure:
11am – The View
5pm – Angel Orensanz Foundation (Bob, Phil and Warren acoustic set)
8pm – The Gramercy Theatre (Full Band electric set)
11pm – Roseland Ballroom (Full Band electric set)
And here’s The Dead’s lineup:
Bob Weir, guitar/vocals
Phil Lesh, bass/vocals
Mickey Hart, drums/vocals
Bill Kreutzmann, drums
Warren Haynes, guitar/vocals
Jeff Chimenti, keyboards/vocals
I’ll be at Roseland too,. Very cool.
Fun shows those were. Battery Park woulda been cool. Then again, not living in the area anymore, it didn’t mean much to me except I sure did look forward to getting the tunes in my ears the next day!
